Supervisory Forestry Technician (Fire)

As the Assistant IHC Superintendent you will:
Determine preparedness and suppression needs, facilitate procurement, and formulate and prepare project plans for the IHC; Manage assigned property by procuring, maintaining and inventorying tools and equipment to meet individual crew needs, including hand tools, chainsaws, firing equipment, food and water provisions, and personal protective equipment; Assist with organizational training needs assessment; Respond to wildland fire emergencies and provides day-to-day fire line supervision which includes making on-site evaluations of incident conditions, making tactical decisions, and determining appropriate resources; Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work; develop performance standards and evaluate work performance of subordinates; responsible for on-the-job safety and health of all employees supervised. Experience:
To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-07) of the position to be filled. Examples:
assisting with procurement and preparing project plans for an IHC and the formulation of an annual IHC budget; identifying and analyzing suppression tactics and strategies employed on fires and developing alternatives during changing situations involving fuels, weather and topography; under direct supervision, managing assigned crew property, providing training and instruction on safety and health hazards; assisting in coordinating repairs for vehicles; and assisting with the execution of a variety of burn plans. Education:
You must have completed two years (36 semester hours) of graduate level education leading to a master's or equivalent degree which is directly related to the work of a forestry technician. Combination of Specialized Experience and Education:
You must have an equivalent combination of experience and education listed above. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Eligible Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.64. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS:
This position requires special qualifications that have been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as screen out elements.
